The Dakota Sioux have been in many wars. They had many weapons while they fought. The wars mostly equaled into hardship.

Many wars the Dakota had were against them and the United States Army. The 3 main battles were the Battle of the Little Bighorn, The Black Hills War, and The Wounded Knee Massacre. The battle of the Little Bighorn was fought between the Dakota, led by Dakota Chief Sitting Bull, and United States led by General George Armstrong Custer. This battle is also referred to as Custer's Last Stand. This battle ended when Chief Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse killed General Custer. Another important war was the Black Hills War. There were many battles in this war; the opening battle was the Battle of Powder River and the ending battle was at Wolf Mountain. The final one is The Wounded Knee Massacre. The Wounded Knee Massacre was the last major armed conflict between the Dakota and the United States Army. By the time this war was over 25 United States troops were dead and over 150 Dakotas lay dead.

The weapons used by the Dakota were just like those of all the Indians. They used bows, arrows, spears, war clubs, and buffalo-hide shields. What they mostly did was take there enemies weapons. If a Dakota killed an enemy. he would take their weapons. They would get guns and all sorts of knives and spears from them. They really relied on taking an enemy weapon to fight in war. Their weapons were not as strong as there enemies. They had to shoot multiple arrows to kill an enemy and they had to get in a short distance from an enemy to be able to kill them with a war club.

They also had many hardships which were connected with their wars. Like most Indians tribes they were killed or disrespected by the United States. Benjamin Franklin once said "our hands are stained with the blood of our relatives" which means how badly we treated these Indians. A huge hardship for them was while under United State control they prayed for a Messiah to come and save them. They made up a dance called a Ghost Dance. They prayed for a Savior to come an free them for this. They preformed the Ghost Dance many times. The Ghost Dance wasn't much help because they constantly did it which made them more upset. Also during on of the Ghost Dances Dakota Chief Sitting Bull was killed by a fellow Indian. Which was bad because he was such a great leader.

These were the thing the Dakota had to deal with when they started. The United States always gave them bad times, and broke every treaty with them.
